6) America (and other tales of horror)

America and Other Tales of Horror

Vs1
seems like yesterday, everybody workin' a scheme, the
illusive pursuit of the American dream/ (you had)
neighborhood stores, unpolluted shores, and underpaid
allowance for your household chores

(all) men created equal with the same opportunity,
ghetto poor, working class, or breast-fed till puberty,
sounds good on paper, in actuality dissolves like vapor,
could you unravel this caper?

(don't) take Sherlock or Watson, to understand the
gov't is plottin, big brother be watchin/ with the
help of big business, and big money, they doing big things
not concerned when the fat lady sings

the country ain't listening anyway, damn fools
they busy building stadiums, should be building schools
mini malls infecting terrain, like weeds in the grass,
carbon copy facade, identical to the last (2x)

sign of the times, another small shop down on it's luck,
hostile takeover, her comes Starbucks!"
societal evolution sponsored by corporate greed, thanks
Wal-Mart "One Store for my your shopping needs!"

scented candles, riding lawnmower, douche pads and some
scandal, a finger pointer, whistle blower, can you
handle the truth? sweat shop labor using
kids with the power of the dark side, like Lord Vader

Chorus 2x
Step, Step Right UP,
you can see it with your own eyes
America, and other tales of horror

Vs2
It seems we never got tired of occupation, colonization,
thievery as a form of recreation/ the
"sale" of Manhattan, the invasion of Iraq, steppin
on cracks, breaking mad backs, like Joni sang

they paved paradise, put up a parking lot, now
high rise condos without a second thought/ if
salvation is for sale it sure as hell could be bought and sold,
cookie cutter consumer with the fat bill fold

the burbs in America look the goddamn same, with
names like "happy valley" motherfucker who's to blame?!
if they want to find culture they do a google search,
learn intelligent design from the school and at church

have lunch in the club, siesta in the tub, hit the
links, followed by pints at the pub, a superior
complex, like the gestapo in boots, but this aryan
nation, dawns two-piece armani tailored suits

and they firing off shots, a barrage of layoffs, mass
casualties as they build plants overseas, it's like
a disease, unemployment bringing people to their knees,
what does it means "homeland security"?

Do you see what I see?
another link in the chain of fools, an
over-chlorinated gene-pool, simultaneously regulating,
while staying the exception to the rule

Vs3
Now everybody scared of everyone else, the enemy has
infiltrated your town, your block, your damn house!/ Terror
alert at red, put the kids to bed, pandemic
paranoia got 'em sick in the head

the whole world gone insane, deserts soaked by rain
apocalypse now, you waiting in vain,
did Atlas shrug, tip the scales, (uh)) I bite me nails, in the
sky, even the rainbow is a whiter shade of pale

just another typical rant, another effort to plant,
the seeds of doubt, the power to surmount/
history is cyclical, the same repetitive mistakes
always had it never eaten the cake,

(and for) God's sake, let the killin' in his name STOP!
That shit is older than Eqyptian burial plots, or
tombs/ can't clean up this mess, we running out of brooms,
oil, blood faith = noxious fumes

(don't) hold your breath waiting for the fires to cease,
break 'em into smaller pieces, not resulting in peace,
manipulation, imitation follow the leader,
but to truly stop the river, you can't leave it to beaver

(this very) moment is the perfect teacher, look to yourself,
not scripture, half theory, from a book of the shelf
Existence, without fear, without strife, cause
Today could be the first day of the best days of your life
